The first phase of construction of the University Medicine Centre in Plzeň was commenced with the laying of the foundation stone on November 9. The ceremony was attended by the chancellor of Charles University and many other distinguished individuals.
According to Charles University Chancellor Václav Hampl, the aim of the project is to build a facility to serve as the new centre of education and research in Plzeň for scientists from the Czech Republic and abroad. “The first part of the facility now under construction will house five theoretical institutes of the faculty and the new Biomedical Centre. The Plzeň Region, typically perceived as a technical area, will gain a new facility for teaching the natural and medical sciences and for research aimed at improving medical care,” said the chancellor.
